Your Bio
My name is Bob Kulon; however, these days I simply use the handle "boku." I am thrilled to rejoin the ranks of photo practitioners after a long respite. Over the years I cultivated a solid understanding of photo technique and a talent for envisioning finished work from raw light, texture, and tones. This capability drove me into the field professionally in the late '70's culminating in a large-scale commercial studio specializing in wedding photography. In time, that venture ran it course. I ceased operations due to the pressures of business and the lack of creative fulfillment. Basically, I wanted to create the pictures I saw in my mind, at my pace, with total control over the final output. I was in the wrong business, for the wrong reasons, exposing thousands of rolls of film for the labs to digest. Something had to give.
Since then, I mostly dabbled. Until the onset of affordable digital gear that could deliver predicable, quality results, the ember barely glowed. Then, lo and behold, the modern-day DSLR hit and the flame came back. Here, within my grasp, was a set of tools that allowed me complete control over every step of the imaging process with instant feedback and the chance to make adjustments!
So I'm hooked and I'm shooting. My current interest is in Landscape Photography of many sorts: pastoral, cityscapes, geographic drama, natural textures. I also have been dabbling in architecture, nature, and street scenes. I have a small studio setup ready for some stilllifes when I get around to it. What's missing? Portraits, weddings, and commercial. All the stuff that distracted me originally.
